Bayley Martin Experiences Mini Heart Attack During Torian Pro, Withdraws from Competition

Bayley Martin, a prominent athlete predicted to qualify for this year’s CrossFit Games, faced a serious health scare during the recent Torian Pro event, leading him to withdraw after the first workout.

Withdrawal After First Event

During the competition, Martin struggled with the demanding first event, which included a run, bar muscle-ups, and sandbag squats. Unfortunately, he wasn’t alone in this challenge, as he was one of six male competitors who were time capped, unable to complete the event within the allotted time frame.

Following his performance, Martin chose not to compete in the second event scheduled for later that day. Initially, some speculated that his withdrawal was solely due to being out of contention for a Games spot, but this was soon revealed to be only part of the story.

Medical Concern Revealed

Shane Orr, a member of Team PRVN, shared insights into Martin’s situation in a video titled “TEAM PRVN AT THE TORIAN PRO.” Orr expressed that, while he didn’t want to invade Martin’s privacy, it was clear that Martin had several interactions with the medical staff at the event, ultimately leading to him being transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Health Update from Martin

Shortly after the event, Martin took to his YouTube channel to disclose what had transpired. He reported that after completing the first workout, he was taken to the medical room for assessments, which included an EKG. Despite being released initially, he was advised to return to medical attention prior to his second event.

Upon further examination, Martin underwent another EKG, followed by a third scan which revealed inconsistent results across all three tests—an indication of potential underlying issues. Consequently, the medical team made the decision to withdraw him from the competition, and he was transported to the hospital for ongoing testing and observation.

Diagnosis and Rest Recommendations

Martin remained hospitalized until the following Thursday, during which time he underwent additional tests. Fortunately, he managed to avoid surgery; however, doctors confirmed that he had experienced a mini heart attack, resulting in minor damage and inflammation in his heart. He is currently on medication to manage this condition.

As a result of the incident, medical professionals advised Martin to refrain from workouts and avoid elevating his heart rate for at least one month. This advice came just as he was contemplating participating in the Last Chance Qualifier, thus putting an end to his hopes of qualifying for the 2025 CrossFit Games.

Future Competitions

Despite this setback, Martin remains hopeful about making a return to competition later this year. He is assessing options for re-entry into the competitive arena but acknowledges that the upcoming WFP Tour Stop 2 qualifier may be too soon. Currently, he is setting his sights on the Rogue Invitational as a potential event to stage his comeback.

Having made a significant impact in his first two years at the CrossFit Games—finishing 12th overall in his rookie season of 2023—fans and fellow athletes alike are eager to see how Martin navigates his recovery and eventual return to competition.
