Just two days following her impressive win at the NorCal Classic, CrossFit athlete Alex Gazan was involved in a car accident with her husband, Jake. Unfortunately, the incident resulted in Gazan suffering a fractured fibula.
This injury casts doubt on her ability to compete in the upcoming 2025 CrossFit Games, and it could also jeopardize her season in the World Fitness Project (WFP). Despite the setback, Gazan had a remarkable year leading up to the accident, highlighted by her first-place finish at the NorCal Classic after winning the WFP Tour Stop 1 in May.
Upcoming Competitions and Points Challenge
The next WFP event is scheduled for the end of August in Mesa, Arizona, where Gazan, a signed Pro athlete, has a guaranteed spot in the Pro division. Should she be unable to compete in August, she still has the opportunity to participate in the WFP Finals this December.
From her victory at Tour Stop 1, Gazan accumulated 500 points. To maintain her Pro card for the 2026 season, she will need to secure enough points from the next two WFP competitions to finish in the top 20.
Impact on Qualification at NorCal Classic
Regarding Gazan’s qualification spot earned at the NorCal Classic, should she be unable to compete, that opportunity is likely to pass to Carolyne Prevost, who finished in third place at the event.
Support for the Gazan Family
To assist with medical and other expenses resulting from the accident, a GoFundMe campaign has been established. The situation was made more challenging as the driver involved in the accident was uninsured, leaving the financial burden on the Gazans.
Despite the challenges ahead, the CrossFit community continues to rally around Alex Gazan during this difficult time.
