Tyler Lee and Carla Cornejo Plascencia have been handed significant sanctions following their involvement in the CrossFit Games. Both athletes, who competed as part of teams, faced disciplinary action for failing drug tests during the Semifinals.
Details of the Violations
Tyler Lee, who represented CrossFit Mayhem Somos, tested positive for several performance-enhancing substances, including 3a-hydroxy-2a-methyl-5a-androstan-17-one, a metabolite of Drostanolone. He was also found to have GW1516-sulfone and GW1516-sulfoxide—both metabolites of the banned substance GW501516—during the North America East Semifinal.
On the other hand, Carla Cornejo Plascencia, competing for CrossFit Complex Wodex, was found positive for 16a-hydroxy-1-methyl-5a-androst-1-en-3,17-dione and 3a-hydroxy-1-methylene-5a-androstan-17-one, which are metabolites of metenolone, during the North America West Semifinal.
Reaction from Carla Cornejo Plascencia
Following the announcement of her suspension, Carla took to Instagram to address the situation. She stated, “For those who are not part of this world, it is complex to understand all the implications of the process behind an accusation or sanction for the use of prohibited substances, and the only thing I will say is that there are elements that must be fulfilled and that are not on the table. Despite this, and the possible future sanction I face, I will continue to seek the best scenario for my future as an athlete.”
Outcome of the Appeals
Despite their appeals against the test results, both Tyler Lee and Carla Cornejo Plascencia were unsuccessful in overturning their sanctions. Consequently, they now face a four-year suspension from competition, which will extend until May 2028.
