CrossFit 24.2 Results: Henrik Haapalainen and Emily Claw Take the Victory Amid Controversy Profile Picture

Last night, the CrossFit community was abuzz with the announcement of the worldwide winners of the 24.2 Open workout. Henrik Haapalainen and Emily Claw emerged victorious, but not without some controversy and surprises.

The initial frontrunner, Tudor Magda, had submitted an impressive score of 1,001 reps, which was deemed the highest in the world. However, after a thorough video review, CrossFit imposed a 20% penalty on Magda for a “consistent lack of hip extension in the deadlift.” As a result, Magda’s score was adjusted to 800 reps, dropping him from 1st place to 8,723rd globally.

Henrik Haapalainen’s Triumph

Following the penalty on Magda, Henrik Haapalainen claimed the top spot. Nevertheless, Haapalainen also faced a scoring adjustment as he received a one rep penalty, reducing his score to 997 reps. The penalty was due to Haapalainen completing only 49 double-unders in Round 7. Despite the adjustment, Haapalainen’s revised score secured him the coveted title of 24.2 winner, earning him a prize of $2,024.

Emily Claw’s Victory

On the women’s side, Emily Claw impressed with a score of 926 reps. Claw’s performance was validated at an affiliate, but no video evidence was available to corroborate her achievement. Despite the lack of footage, CrossFit declared Claw the winner of the 24.2 workout in the women’s division. However, due to the absence of video documentation, Claw was deemed ineligible to receive prize money.

The decision to penalize Magda while allowing Claw’s score to stand without video proof sparked debates within the CrossFit community. The announcement led to reactions from prominent figures like Andrew Hiller, who discussed the matter live before the official declaration, and Craig Richey, who raised questions about the judgment.
