Cingiwe Ciegy Seru, affectionately known as Sbrana, hails from a remote village in southeastern Botswana, where she was born into a family of arable farmers. As the sixth child among ten siblings, Seru’s upbringing was defined by hard labor on the farm from a young age, often taking on tasks typically assigned to men due to the scarcity of male labor in her family. Despite facing challenges such as a lack of basic necessities and an abusive father, Seru developed a resilient and warrior-like mentality, which later paved the way for her remarkable journey in sports and fitness.

Cingiwe Ciegy Seru’s CrossFit Journey

After excelling in karate and playing university team rugby, Seru’s journey into the world of CrossFit began in 2017 when she joined CrossFit Gaborone. Her commitment to fitness, initially a means to combat depression, evolved into a passion that saw her rise to become Botswana’s top female CrossFit competitor. Seru’s natural talent and hard work earned her the title of the 125th ‘fittest woman on the planet’ at the 2019 CrossFit Games in Madison, Wisconsin.

Competing in the CrossFit Open, she consistently ranked as the top female athlete in Botswana from 2018 to 2021, showcasing remarkable improvement and determination. Aside from her athletic prowess, Seru is a mother and works as a curator at the Botswana National Museum.
